Using an “already proven” Business Strategy is the most effective and fastest way to grow a business. Following a “working model” is the only sure-fire way to growth.

Most businesses are still GUESSING as to what to do next. Even larger businesses today say things like…”We simply don’t know what else to try”.

That is the problem. Businesses in todays competitive market do not have time to “TRY” anything. They need to implement ideas and strategies that have been proven successful.

A good Growth Consultant should bring to the table vision in areas of search engine optimization, marketing, “expense trailers” that fund marketing efforts, as well as, general business strategy, and re-defining the “Genetic Code” of a company. These are pillars that no business can live without.

Years ago my wife, Kerri, helped me move one of my offices. Kerri asked me if I had read all the books on the shelves of my office. I said, OF COURSE!

She said, “Do you realize that on this wall alone I have boxed up 10 plastic bins with 40 books in each bin? That means there are over 400 books just on the topic of business.”
I had never counted, but I do know that I have averaged a book a week for some time because I learned a long time ago that I simply don’t know what I don’t know.

My first objective is to get the leaders of a business or organization to realize that there are almost an infinite amount of growth ideas that can be applied to any business.

I heard once that the first step to all success is to stop lying to ourselves. I read once in a Dr. John Maxwell book on leadership that one of the greatest days of his life was a Saturday afternoon when he realized he had just gone from an Eternal Optimist, to an Optimistic Realist.

To implement effective business strategies that not only work, but stick, is a science that can be studied, learned and duplicated.

A problem can not be solved on the same plane the problem sits.

If your business is stuck, plateaued, or simply needs a boost, outside input can not only be refreshing, but often can put business owners and entrepreneurs on the rocket-ship ride of their life.

In my second year in business, way back when, I made a snap decision to go to a conference in Las Vegas. At the time, I owned a good sized sign company. I went to the conference to hear one specific person speak. He was touted as the founder of one of the most profitable sign companies in the country.
I remember paying what I thought at the time was an incredible amount of money to hear a 75 year old man, with 40 years experience, talk for one short afternoon. I quickly found out that his company ran 500% more revenues than my company, with one third the amount of sales reps.
I couldn’t take notes fast enough as he explained how his business model worked.

He explained how he paid his reps. How they found their customers. How they bid their jobs and much more.
I came home and implemented everything I learned and doubled our gross sales 5 out of the next 7 years in business. It seemed like we became a national sign company over night.
That is what Stephen Covey calls… “a paradigm shift”.

I went into that meeting with “x” amount of knowledge of how to run and grow a sign company and I left that meeting with “x times y” amount of knowledge.

That was my first lesson that experience pales in comparison to wisdom. Wisdom is learning from OTHERS experiences.

In other words, as one of my great mentors once said to a group of business owners and community leaders, “If you are over 30 and there is nothing in your checkbook, you will be 60 with nothing in your checkbook. He went on to say that if you don’t take counsel from someone with something in their checkbook, you will die broke.”

I’ve never forgot that lesson. Outside input is priceless.
